Two special performances with a religious theme are being performed
in Belfast this week. St. Peter's Cathedral in west Belfast will
host US actor Brad Sherrill's acclaimed off-Broadway performance
of The Gospel of John tomorrow at 7:30pm.
Sherrill spent four months committing the entire Gospel to memory,
using the New International Version translation. Since he premiered
the show in 2000 he has given more than 500 performances. The
show has garnered plaudits wherever it has been performed, with
The Washington Post saying: "It's not just the intensity
of Sherrill's performance that brings the story home. It's also
the simple stroke of genius in performing the entire Gospel, unadapted,
as drama. Passion, longing, envy, greed, ambition, intrigue and
betrayal...it's all here, and it is riveting."
The St. Peter's performance is part of a tour of European cathedrals.
Also this week a concert in aid of the Corrymeela Community will
be held at the Elmwood Hall on Belfast's University Road on Saturday
at 7:30pm. Roger Courtney, who has been involved with Corrymeela
for almost 40 years, will be performing Go in Peace, a
selection of songs telling the community's story.
